  Text: Según la antigua tradición, el cristianismo fue introducido a los Egipcios por San Marcos en Alejandría durante el reinado del Emperador romano Claudio en el 46 de nuestra era. La nueva religión se extendió rápidamente por Egipto en el s. II y las escrituras fueron traducidas a la lengua local, hoy conocida como lengua copta.
  According to ancient tradition, Christianity was introduced to the Egyptians by Saint Mark in Alexandria during the reign of the Roman emperor Claudius around 42 A.D. The new religion spread throughout Egypt in the second century and scriptures were translated into the local language, today known as the Coptic language.

  By the beginning of the 3rd century A.D. Christians constituted the majority of Egypt’s population, and the Church of Alexandria was recognized as one of Christendom's four Apostolic Sees. In 451 A.D., following the Council of Chalcedon, the Church of Alexandria was divided into two branches.

  Text: La Iglesia Colgante, la más famosa de las iglesias cristianas coptas en El Cairo, toma su nombre de su ubicación en lo alto de la torre sur de la antigua fortaleza de Babilonia, con su nave suspendida sobre el pasadizo(Muallaka significa "suspendido").
  The Hanging Church, the most famous Coptic Christian church in Cairo, derives its name from its location on top of the southern tower gate of the old Babylon fortress, with its nave suspended above the passage (Muallaqa means 'suspended').

  Text: La Esfinge de alabastro fue esculpida en honor a un Faraón desconocido durante la XVIII Dinastía, entre 1700 y 1400 a.d.C. Los rasgos faciales apuntan a Hatshepsut, Amenhotep II o Amenhotep III.
  The Alabaster Sphinx was carved in honor of an unknown Pharaoh most likely during the eighteenth dynasty, between 1700 and 1400 BC. The facial features suggest that it was in honor of Hatshepsut or Amenhotep II or Amenhotep III.

  This monumental statue with the head of a human (perhaps of the King Khafre or Khufu) and a lion's body is a national symbol of Egypt, crumbling today because of the erosion of the wind, subterranean humidity and the smog from Cairo.

  Text: La Gran Esfinge ha estimulado la imaginación sobre su antigüedad, su significado y los secretos que podría albergar. Se cree que los operarios de Kefrén fueron quienes le dieron al cuerpo forma de león y esculpieron el rostro del Rey hace 4500 años.
  The Great Sphinx stirred the speculation about its age, its meaning, and the secrets that it might hold. It is believed that Khafre's workers shaped the stone into the lion and gave it their king's face over 4,500 years ago.
