 Basilica of St. Simeon - Syria: St. Simeon Stylites was a monk who in the 5th century chained himself in the top of a column (about 20 meters) for 38 years. His primary purpose being was to get closer to God. He preached there and offer advice to pilgrims (except women, whose entrance was forbidden,including his mother).
